Fight Well Against the Future, 2013

Fight Well Against the Future depicts a chance encounter between icons of technology from two different eras in human history—modern day parking lots and ancient ruins from the lost civilizations of Central America.  I created this encounter to explore the conundrum of our future-oriented society: the impulse to fight our inevitable demise through technological developments and our simultaneous desire to go back to the natural world that represents our origin.  I created the collages by combining digital prints, watercolor, graphite rubbings and gilded ink drawings into magical-realist landscapes that unify these disparate images through an unexpected sense of nostalgia and longing.
